Accomplishments
AWHF continues to lead the way with strategic initiatives to support our Defense Forces. Thanks to your support, we have accomplished the following milestones in the first half of 2020:
Saving Lives in Combat
On July 14th, we delivered 2,000 US-made military first-aid kits for our Defense Forces in Tavush. These kits have been highly effective at saving the lives of injured soldiers across the Artsakh front line. Thanks to your generous donations, 100% of our forces on the front lines of Artsakh have been properly protected with these first-aid kits. This latest shipment was approximately $80,000, which adds to the $1M spent to equip our forces. Thanks to strong support from the community, by mid-July we have raised another $115,000 to rush first aid kits to the front lines.
Leading the COVID-19 Response for Artsakh Forces
In the Spring of 2020, we led a major effort (investment of $35,000) to provide disinfection supplies and equipment to Artsakh’s major military hospitals and barracks. Our objective was to prevent an infectious outbreak that may lead to operational impairment. In June, we also installed a $15,000 Uninterruptible Power Supply system at the central military hospital, which had been functioning without one for several years, exposing sensitive hospital equipment to damage. This was a top priority for the military in Artsakh, and our heroes can now continue to receive the care they need.
Improving Living Conditions on the Front Lines
We have secured funding and are currently deploying 8 Defense Support Units (“DSUs”) in Artsakh, in addition to 6 units already deployed in 2019. For a total cost of $15,000 per unit, our DSUs provide running water, a hygienic kitchen and warm showers to strategic border units currently serving in deplorable conditions. A healthy army is our best defense, and the need for improved hygiene is a top priority, and now, receiving greater support. We are working directly with the Minister of Defense of Artsakh to position these units for maximum effectiveness. Thank you to the families and organizations who have each “adopted” a front line unit. We plan to deploy the new units by August and look forward to sending pictures of your contributions to Armenia’s security.
