In addition to the life-saving combat medical kits that we continue to provide since 2016, we are in the process of sending sophisticated and newly developed equipment for severe life threatening combat injuries and bleeding.
A first-in-kind non-absorbable, expandable, hemostatic device approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for temporary internal use for the treatment of gunshot and shrapnel wounds will be purchased for the Armenian Defense Forces. The device works by injecting a group of small, rapidly-expanding sponges into a wound cavity using a syringe-like applicator.
Each sponge contains an x-ray detectable marker. In the wound, the sponges expand and swell to fill the wound cavity within 20 seconds of contact with blood. This creates a temporary barrier to blood flow and provides hemostatic pressure, thus, stopping severe bleeding to junctional areas of the body where tourniquet use is not possible.
